Ssh Akihiro (相州秋廣) was a distinguished swordsmith active during the Nanbokuch period and a leading figure of the Ssh tradition. He is regarded as one of the foremost masters of this tradition, alongside Hiromitsu, who is also said to have been a disciple of the renowned Masamune.
Akihiro is credited with establishing the Hitatsura (皆焼) tempering style, in which the hardened pattern extends across the entire blade. His work is characterized by a wide blade with a powerful presence, featuring strong nie (crystalline martensite) throughout the surface.
This particular blade was recently discovered in a long-established family estate. The shirasaya (plain wooden mounting) bears a storage reference number. No critical flaws such as cracks (hagire) or notable forging defects have been observed. It is quite rare to encounter an Akihiro blade in such excellent condition.
