サーフボードシェイパーのショーン・ステューシー（Shawn Stussy）が、彼の仲間のためにデザインした数枚のＴシャツから始まったアパレルブランド"ステューシー（Stssy）1980"はユースカルチャーから自然発生したブランド、1980年代後半から1990年代初頭に掛けて、南カリフォルニアのサーフシーンから生まれたブランドとして新しいカジュアルウェアのルックとイデオロギーでアパレルの世界に変化をもたらした。
1980年代後半には、サーフィンとスケートボードという孤立した小さな世界の中で話題を集め、ショーンはニューヨークとカリフォルニアに小さなショールームを開設し、彼自身が尊敬していたショップにデザインを見せて回った。

The apparel brand "Stussy 1980" began with a few T-shirts designed by surfboard shaper Shawn Stussy for his friends. was a brand that emerged organically from youth culture. Born from the Southern California surf scene in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it brought a new look and ideology to casual wear, transforming the apparel world.
In the late 1980s, the brand gained attention within the isolated, small worlds of surfing and skateboarding. Shawn opened small showrooms in New York and California and took his designs around to shops he respected.
Amidst this, Stussy expanded the boundaries of expression through collaborations with street culture—"club music," "dance," and "graffiti"—which led to the brand’s success and raised Stussy’s global profile. The movement, which stemmed from a global network, centered on the four major cities of Los Angeles, New York, London, and Tokyo, and this group of like-minded individuals later became known as the “International Stussy Tribe” (Stussy’s global community).
