①は、
ザ・バーズが1964年にデビューしてから1970年までのTV出演シーンをこれでもかと45曲収録したコレクターズDVDです。時代的に初期の白黒画像が多いですが、エドサリバンショー等はカラーで鮮明な画像です。歴史的映像として価値があるのはアルバム発売順には66年以降ボーカルのジーン・クラークが最初に脱退したと思われがちですが、ロジャー・マッギン、クリス・ヒルマン、マイク・クラーク、ジーン・クラークの4人の布陣で出演している映像がかなりあり、飛行機嫌い(?)のジーン・クラークもツアー以外はD.クロスビーよりも長く在籍していたか(?)のようです。40曲目以降は、ロジャー・マッギン率いる後期NEW BYRDSといったところですが、アルバム[バーズ博士とハイド氏]からの曲を口パクではなくTVで演奏するシーンは貴重です。この時期バーズは、カントリーロックの時代に入っているにもかかわらずTVシーンでは相変わらずGOGOガールが演奏する「火の車」をバックに踊りまくっているのが違和感があります。画面が乱れるような画像はなく比較的見やすい内容です。15年くらい前にで入手。

『1978年2月9日(2月2日?)サンフランシスコ、ボーディングハウスにて行われたライブ。1977年にロジャー・マッギン、ジーン・クラーク、クリス・ヒルマンによるライブがUS＆ヨーロッパで行われ、その時は各ソロや様々なコンビネーションによるパフォーマンスが行われたが、1978年の当ライブではデヴィッド・クロスビーも参加して、聴衆を沸かせた。本盤は、KSAN-FMが放送用に録音した音源を使用。』 HMV RECORDS 商品説明より
1973年にザ・バーズ(=オリジナルバーズ)のメンバーは再集結しアライサム・レコードから1枚のアルバムを残しました。その後1977年にロジャー・マッギンとクリス・ヒルマンそしてジーン・クラークの3名は一緒にライブ活動をスタートし、[McGuinn, Clark & Hillman]等の数枚のアルバムを発表しますが、このツアーはそんな時期にD・クロスビーも参加した公演です。ドラムとベースなしの彼らのアコースティックな演奏が楽しめます。デヴィッド・クロスビーは8曲目から16曲目までゲストとして参加しています。良好なFM音源のステレオ録音です。

This is a collector's DVD featuring 45 TV appearances by The Byrds from their debut in 1964 through 1970. While many of the images are from the early days, including black-and-white, the images from appearances like The Ed Sullivan Show are in vivid color. While the album release order suggests that vocalist Gene Clark was the first to leave the band after 1966, there is considerable footage of the band as a four-man line-up: Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, Mike Clark, and Gene Clark. Gene Clark, who hated flying, apparently stayed with the band longer than D. Crosby, except for on tour. From track 40 onward, it's reminiscent of the late New Byrds led by Roger McGuinn, and there are rare scenes of them performing songs from the album "Dr. Byrds and Mr. Hyde" on TV without lip-syncing. Even though the Byrds were entering their country-rock era at this time, it's strange to see them still dancing to "Cars of Fire" performed by go-go girls on TV. There's no distortion, and the footage is relatively easy to watch. I acquired this on ! Auctions about 15 years ago.
② is a live performance held at the Boarding House in San Francisco on February 9 (February 2?), 1978. In 1977, Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark, and Chris Hillman performed live in the US and Europe. While the band performed solo and in various combinations, this 1978 concert also featured David Crosby, thrilling audiences. This disc utilizes recordings originally recorded for broadcast by KSAN-FM. From the HMV RECORDS product description:
In 1973, the original members of The Byrds reunited and released one album on Allysham Records. In 1977, Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, and Gene Clark began performing together, releasing several albums, including "McGuinn, Clark & Hillman." This tour features performances from that period, featuring David Crosby. Enjoy their acoustic performances without drums or bass. David Crosby appears as a guest on tracks 8 through 16. This is a high-quality FM stereo recording.

"This is their sixth album, a milestone milestone for the band, who traveled to Nashville, the home of country music, to create music that combined the country they had known since before the Byrds with an important element of rock 'n' roll, and led the rise of country rock. Centered around Roger McGuinn and Chris Hillman, the band welcomed Gram Parsons and Hillman's cousin Kevin Kelly as members, and Clarence White, who had guested on 1967's "Younger Than Yesterday," rejoined (needless to say, he would be credited as a permanent member from the next album onward). Another notable feature was the extensive use of guest musicians, including John Hartford on banjo and Lloyd Green on steel guitar. -omitted-"
