EAGLES イーグルス SELECTED WORKS 1972-1999 どのバンドが長続きするか当てるのは難しい。イーグルスはカントリーロックで脚光を浴びたが、ジャンル自体は一時的なもので終わった。さらに有能なフロントマン二人を擁し、音楽的な衝突は避けられないと思われていた。しかしご存知の通りドン・ヘンリー、グレン・フライとほかの面々は、最初の8年間で一気に12曲のトップ10ヒットをとばす快進撃を見せたのである。『Selected Works 1972-1999』は彼らの全盛期である70年代から80年代初頭の楽曲を中心に構成された4枚組。各ディスクは『Early Years』、『Ballads』『Fast Lane』等テーマ別に編集されており、4枚目は1999年の大晦日LIVE『A Night To Remember』となっている。印象的なパッケージに詳細なライナーノーツ、懐かしい写真等、カリフルニアサウンドを代表したバンドの完全盤にふさわしい内容だ。彼らが気楽にやりながら（Take It Easy）、いつのまにか頂点を極めていった（Take It To The Limit）軌跡である。
