California-born guitar player/vocalist Paul Menndez was also active in the cutting-edge Cuban experimental group Grupo De Experimentacin Sonora Del ICAIC. He moved to Cuba from around the age of 14 and has been active for many years, forming this Mezcla group in the 1980s. A phantasmagoric mixture groove that combines the high level of traditional Cuban performance with modern arrangements and essences that have gone through a period of experimentation. The overall sense of balance is probably the most important aspect of the album, with dope Latin groove "Hijos De La Mezcla” centered percussion and guitar sound, sophisticated Afro-Cuban fusion “People Together”, experimental fusion style “Ya Ni Los Gallos Se Oyen” with great break. The collaged artwork is also impressive.
キューバン先鋭実験グループGrupo De Experimentacin Sonora Del ICAICでも活動したカルフォルニア生まれのギター奏者/ヴォーカルPaul Menndez。14歳頃から移り住んだキューバにて長年活動を続け80年代に入り新たに結成したのがこのMezcla。キューバ伝統の演奏力の高さに加え、実験期を経たモダンなアレンジやエッセンスが加わった変幻自在のミクスチャーグルーヴ。全体のバランス感覚が最大の聞き所と思いますが、パーカッション、ギターを中心にドープなラテングルーヴを刻む”Hijos De La Mezcla”、洗練されたアフロ・キューバン・フュージョン”People Together”、中盤のブレイクが最高のエクスペリメンタル・フュージョン”Ya Ni Los Gallos Se Oyen”は中でも素晴らしいです。コラージュされたアートワークもイカしてます。
