The hammered dulcimer, a percussion string instrument originating in Persia, is played by striking metal strings with a plectrum called a hammer. This is a cassette album released in 1991 by Jamie Janover, a hammered dulcimer player based in New Jersey. Following works performed with band style, this 1990 recording marks a return to solo performance. It opens with the title track, exceeding 18 minutes and showcasing a continental dynamism, followed by solo performance on the Aboriginal brass instrument, the Didgeridu, and the rhythmic “Perpetual Transition,” which begins with percussion sounds and features rapid-fire playing. It offers a variety of pieces while capturing amazing performances. He continued to release works consistently, but only his 1993 album is available as a streaming release and on Discogs. However believe it is a solid work worth listening to, including his other releases. In recent years, he has been active in fields like dubstep and downtempo. This is deadstock acquired directly from artist himself.
金属製の弦をハンマーと呼ばれる撥を打って演奏するペルシャに起源を持つ打弦楽器ハンマー・ダルシマー。本作はニュージャージーを拠点に活動していたハンマー・ダルシマー奏者Jamie Janoverによる91年リリースのカセット作品。バンド編成での作品を経てリリースされたこの90年録音作品ではソロ演奏に戻り、大陸的なダイナミズムをみるような18分を超えるタイトル曲にはじまり、アボリジニの金管楽器ディジュリドゥのソロ演奏、打楽器音から始まる早弾きを主体としたリズミカルな"Perpetual Transition"を筆頭にした5曲を収録。バラエティを加えながらも素晴らしい演奏を収録しています。この後もコンスタントに作品を発表し続けていますが93年作のみのストリーミング音源とDiscogsに登録があるのみですが今作含め聞く価値のある確かな作品と思います。近年はダブステップやダウンテンポなどのフィールドで活躍しています。ご本人経由で譲ってもらったデッドストック品です。
